With the next Unpacked event less than a week away, a clearer view is emerging of what the upcoming Galaxy watches could offer. Leaked images of the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 have surfaced together with other foldable devices from the same lineup.

The latest information points to an iterative design strategy instead of a bold overhaul. The Galaxy Watch 9 looks set to keep its circular screen inside the familiar squircle case, while the Ultra 2 continues with the rugged style of its predecessor. Images showing both models together hint at a visible difference in display dimensions.

If current reports hold true, battery capacity could deliver the most meaningful improvement. The Ultra 2 is said to carry an 800-mAh cell, the largest yet seen in the Wear OS space, which may extend runtime well past the roughly two-day mark of the existing model.

As wearables shift toward continuous health monitoring that includes overnight recovery data, some brands have introduced screen-free devices to maximize endurance. The Ultra 2 could strike a balance by pairing multi-day battery life with full smartwatch capabilities.

Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2 design: familiar approach

Last year's Galaxy Watch 8 introduced a redesign that drew mixed reactions, which made the return of the Classic model with its rotating bezel especially notable. No new Classic variant appears likely this time, though a fresh design direction remains possible.

The rugged Ultra line, introduced in 2024, received only minor tweaks in the previous cycle such as increased storage and an extra color option. Both the Watch 9 and Ultra 2 may therefore receive more noticeable design updates to address feedback on the current generation.

At 47 mm the Ultra already occupies significant wrist space, yet a rotating bezel borrowed from the Classic series could still be considered. Whether such a feature fits an adventure-oriented watch is uncertain, and recent leaks suggest the bezel will stay fixed.

Battery and processor improvements expected

While battery growth is normal between generations, the latest details suggest a larger step than usual. The Ultra 2 is expected to use a cell rated at 784 mAh and marketed as 800 mAh, representing roughly a 30 percent increase over the 590-mAh unit in the current model. This would also surpass batteries in other leading Wear OS devices.

Paired with a more efficient processor, the larger cell could bring real-world endurance close to three days or more when power-saving options are active. The smaller 40 mm Galaxy Watch 9 is also slated for a battery increase, moving from 325 mAh to 382 mAh.

New health tracking capabilities

An upgraded processor and sensors may enable deeper health insights on the Ultra 2. Last year's Antioxidant Index measured nutrition-related signals at the skin surface. Further advances could expand nutrition and metabolic tracking, with progress toward noninvasive glucose monitoring remaining a key goal.

Greater AI focus and independence

Samsung is preparing additional AI-driven health features such as Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, and Fitness Index. These tools aim to surface long-term trends and offer personalized guidance on recovery, training load, and overall wellness.

Stronger on-device processing could support real-time coaching without constant phone connectivity. Satellite connectivity is another possibility for the Ultra 2, following similar additions on competing devices.

Galaxy Ring 2 not expected this cycle

The Galaxy Ring, launched in 2024, has no successor appearing in current rumors. No leaks or indications point to a new model this year, suggesting Samsung may focus solely on the two-watch lineup of the Watch 9 and Ultra 2 for its next wearable release.
